Privacy policy

Fica News (ficafilm.com/news) is operated by Fica Vision Ltd in Nairobi, Kenya. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it and the rights you have.

What we collect

• Account details: the phone number, optional name and hashed password you register with.
• Email subscriptions: the email address and language you choose.
• Payments: for M-Pesa subscriptions, the paying phone number, amount and M-Pesa receipt. We never see or store your M-Pesa PIN.
• Reader tips: what you choose to send us. Tips can be anonymous; location data is removed from photos, and we keep only a processed IP digest to prevent abuse, never the raw IP address.
• Reading statistics: page counts and referral types (e.g. search, social media), aggregated and not linked to individuals.

Cookies

We use only cookies the site needs to work: sign-in, a security token against cross-site request forgery, your language and theme choice, and a session marker used by our web firewall. We use no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

How we use it

Only to run the news service: sign-in and subscriptions, sending the daily email you asked for, processing payments, checking and reporting on reader tips, and understanding which stories readers value. We do not sell or rent personal information.

Third-party services

• Cloudflare: delivery and security.
• Brevo: confirmation and daily email delivery.
• Safaricom M-Pesa: subscription payments.
• Google Drive: off-site backups of site data, accessible only to site administrators.

Storage and security

Data is stored on our servers and always sent over HTTPS; passwords are hashed. The site is backed up daily, and backups are used only for recovery.

Your rights

You can unsubscribe from emails at any time using the link in every email. To see, correct or delete your account and data, write to [email protected]; we respond within 30 days.
