Afrigo Band to play with Pearl Symphony Orchestra in Kampala on 24 October

On Saturday 24 October 2026, Afrigo Band will play with the Pearl Symphony Orchestra at the UMA show grounds in Kampala. Quicket Uganda lists tickets from USh 120,000.

Afrigo Band will perform with the Pearl Symphony Orchestra at The Kampala Jazz & Soul Benefit on Saturday 24 October 2026 at the UMA multi-purpose hall on Jinja Road in Kampala, according to the event's page on Quicket Uganda.

The page gives a 5pm start and a midnight finish, and lists tickets from USh 120,000. It also offers premium VIP packages and individual ticket categories. The organiser is Kampala Jazz Benefit Concert Events.

Afrigo was formed in 1975 by musicians who had broken away from Cranes Band, the Daily Monitor reported on 25 September. The paper calls it Uganda's longest-running musical group.

In August 2025, the Monitor wrote, Afrigo celebrated 50 years with a concert at Millennium Grounds, Lugogo.

James Wasula, the band's executive director, said at the time of the 50th anniversary, as quoted by the Monitor: "As Afrigo Band, we want what you call band music to thrive."

The Monitor reported that Moses Matovu, 77, one of the band's founding members, died on Thursday 24 September 2026 after sustaining serious injuries in an attack in Kibuli, Kampala. It wrote that he was "its voice, its disciplinarian, its musical director".

Kintu Banabakintu, the band's business, communications and tour manager, was quoted in the same report as saying: "Afrigo is a band. It's not a one-person franchise. We are going to have meetings, make reviews on what to do next."

Herman Ssewanyana, a veteran band member and percussionist, was quoted by the Monitor as saying: "We have to perform at all booked shows."
